The Guardian Angle
Here is my GameDevTV2022 submission! I learned a lot this is my second game jam with GameDevTV and also my second game jam XD.

I hope you enjoy my game, it is a top down, very roughly pixel arte'd single level puzzle type game. I'm working on finding the fun in this initial mechanic, this is more of a prototype but it gave me some ideas of where it could go in a more releasable type game.
The premise is that you have died and your afterlife self is being given a second chance at your own life, but instead of living it again, you are a ghostly figure steering yourself through life's experiences towards an ultimate 'purpose.' Collect enough experience and achieve the purpose before this new lifetime runs out!
Controls are straightforward, you move with WASD or arrow keys, then the only other thing you can do is fire projectiles which are your 'influence' on your living self (turns them 90 degrees clockwise). you can either launch the influence while stationary which just drops it, or you can launch it while running which makes it move in that direction for a short period.
ToDos:
- I want to make my own art assets, the tiny rpg forest set was great and preanimated, but doesn't really match the theme of the game.
- the core mechanic feels kind of like chore sometimes and there isn't much progression of skill, either it is frustrating or, when you get the hang of it, possibly too simple. Adding additional constraints and tweaking how you influence the player coudl all improve this, needs workshopping.
- the music was something I had already been workign on for another game and then adapted to this one, I'll probably want to create some which fits this better.

Install instructions
you can download or recreate from a unity project. the source code and assets can be found here: https://github.com/nsubordin81/the-guardian-angle
if you just want to download and play, the executable is attached here as well as the unity_player.dll file required.
The game self extracting archive is currently only set up for the Windows Platform but I'm working on adding Mac and Linux build support. To play you would download executable file specific to your platform and then run it from wherever it downloads. All supporting build files will be extracted to a temporary folder.
